From France’s A.P.C. to Australia’s Zimmermann to Italy’s Marni, Melrose Place is becoming quite the global fashion destination. The luxury shopping haunt will soon welcome star-faved Brazilian designer Martha Medeiros’ first stateside boutique this fall — and we can thank Sofia Vergara for that.
Madeiros tells us she opted to make her U.S. debut on the West Coast over New York after the Modern Family star — who’d visited one of her stores in Brazil — encouraged her to open a store in LA. (Vergara had previously worn one of Medeiros’ white dresses during her wedding weekend.)
Her 1,200-square-foot West Hollywood shop will stock her latest collection of dresses and separates, some of which take 800 hours to create. Interior decor touches will include wooden floors, minimalist gold fixtures, and colorful furniture by Brazilian designers.
Medeiros is known for her embellished gowns crafted from intricate lace, which are handwoven by Brazilian women in rural communities. The South American designer’s womenswear first landed in the U.S. at luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman in 2012, per Fashionista; her brick-and-mortar and online stores are currently the only way to purchase her goods.
As far as a specific opening date, we’re told the shop is set to arrive the second week of November; stay tuned for more.
