Update: As of March 2019, Road Trip is closed.

The next time you're seeking a rustic bohemian destination for your next stylish staycation, keep Lake Arrowhead in mind. The mountainside commune has enjoyed an influx of rad new residents and retail therapy options, like new boutique Road Trip.

Founded by cool couple (and former Angelenos) Savannah and David Cotter, the charming space also houses their own abode upstairs. "We decided to move to Lake Arrowhead after David got a work opportunity in Redlands," Savannah tells us. "We had been looking to move out of LA already, so when the opportunity came about we started looking east. We had two friends who'd moved to Lake Arrowhead the year before that we had visited, so decided to try Lake Arrowhead. We moved in October and immediately loved it."

The Cotters' home search brought them to an intriguing two-story A-frame abode, and the creative duo quickly saw retail potential. "We had driven by [the house] every day since moving up here. Luckily, it was for rent and had a downstairs area that we could convert into a workshop," says Savannah.

Just in time for Memorial Day weekend last year, the couple debuted their shop Road Trip, a sister store to Ojai's Cub Scouts-inspired lifestyle boutique Summer Camp. (The Cotters are pals with the latter store's husband-and-wife owners Rachel and Michael Graves, who gave their blessings in a heartbeat.)

The Lake Arrowhead retail retreat offers a mix of handmade home goods, art, vintage finds, and more merch by mostly SoCal makers. Alongside its founders own handmade home furnishings and air plant holders, woodsy bohemian-inclined visitors can pick up ceramics by Natan Moss and Black Mountain, natural bath and body products by Song of a Sparrow, retro felt pennants by Oxford Pennant, accoutrements by Chapparal Studio, jewelry by Karen London, vintage-inspired tees by Compas, stationery by Curious Prints; and so much more.

Like its sibling store in Ojai, the boutique also offers custom photo framing and a mini-nursery, where mountain-dwellers can pick up cacti, succulents, and more greenery. In addition, Savannah tells us they plan on hosting maker workshops, like macrame planter classes.
