Here’s one way to live up to your resolution to start 2018 with a clean (and perspiration-fueled) slate. If you’ve yet to experience the health benefits of modern sweat lodges, consider adding DTLA infrared sauna studio HotBox to your to-do list.
The bright and modern 1,400-square-foot space was designed by Downtown architect Ana Henton (the same mastermind behind Intelligentsia’s Venice outpost and Silver Lake’s Dinosaur Coffee) and houses eight private suites, each equipped with a state-of-the-art infrared sauna, vitamin C showers, mood-enhancing chromotherapy (translation: light color therapy), and a tablet filled with movies and music to keep you entertained as you sweat. Each 45-minute session pumps up your heart rate and increases your core body temperature from the inside out (instead of vice versa, which is how traditional saunas work), allowing your body to comfortably rejuvenate by promoting blood flow, healing muscles, eliminating toxins, and cleansing your pores. Oh, and you’ll burn up to 600 calories in the process.
Each suite fits up to two people, and there’s even a “party” suite that holds up to five.(Ahem, sweat fête, anyone?) Sessions are $45 each ($35 for first-timers) and are also available in packages (5 for $175, 10 for $330, or 20 for $600) and memberships ($39 to $119 per month).
HotBox is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 9pm; (213) 628-3221.
